Kahilu hosting Prince Dance Institute

Kahilu hosting Prince Dance Institute

After four years away, Prince Dance is “back home” at the Kahilu Theatre.

Prince Dance Institute will dance “Living Colors” at 7 p.m. April 26 and 2 p.m. April 27 along with two school shows Wednesday. Now that the theater is back with a strong presenting program it is also ramping up its education program to include Prince Dance “in residence,” running after-school classes and producing this season finale show.

“Living Colors” will set the cast of 60 dancers ages 5 to adult in various thematic scenes created to transport the audience on a tour of the island. Using trapeze, hip-hop, break dancing, acting and contemporary dance, the performers will both entertain and educate the audience using spectacular and every day images to create a new perspective of the Big Island.

With choreography by Angel Prince, Elizabeth McDonald, Lynn Barre, and Grady Sullivan and theatrical scenes by Beth Dunnington, this performance is billed as both high energy and visually stimulating. Ticket prices are $20, $15, $10 and $5 – all seats reserved — and are available through the box office, call 885-6868 or visit kahilutheatre.org.

Gallery event helps watershed group

Harbor Gallery recently completed its successful 2014 Winter Wood Show, hosting thousands of residents and visitors who viewed the exhibition.

As a result of sales during the show, gallery owners Gunner and Elli Mench are making a donation to the Kohala Wateshed Partnership to assist with its efforts to re-establish an endemic forest on 6,600 acres mauka of Pelekane Bay in Kawaihae. This donation of $2,456 will push the total donated during the past five years to more than $33,000.
